Thanks for helping me out both of you :)
Heres my plan
1. Buy my macbook - air or pro, think it will be air as it allows me to easyli bring it along and program on-the-go
2. i'll buy objective-C 2.0 and read it all even though i find it boring i'll keep at it :)
3. then after that i'll buy the second book i mentioned.
Thanks for helping me both of you, now i finally feel ready :)

ACtually, after I booted up the powerbook hd with my mac mini and then booted normally, it is now automatically going into single display mode on boot without screen spanning doctor. This is of course with the original pb display disconnected from logic board. edit: it seems to be caused by remembering mirrored mode.
I'm running leopard so I would have to downgrade to install tiger (kernel panic when I booted mac mini tiger on powerbook as well )
Now I'm having issues getting airport connected automatically on boot and auto-login... goodbye all keychains I guess..

Ok...new thought...
SSD for boot drive.
RAID0 for scratch disk.
Regular HDD for storage.
RAID0 vs SSD for scratch disk...I'm reading that SSD isn't all that great for scratch disks because the write speed isn't all that great and sometimes actually slower than a traditional disk, especially with small file changes. Plus, a 128GB SSd is around $250 whereas i already have a couple SATA drives I could use for RAID0.
So, are there any down sides to using RAID0 strictly as a scratch drive?

Honestly, given the current prices of the entry-level Macbook Pro.. the need for a Macbook is not necessary.. Just look at how powerful the entry-level Macbook Pro is and its only like 150.00 more than the MacBook.. Not worth it, I think Apple should dump the Macbook and just use Macbook pros.
150 is alot for some and many don't ned a mbp......

^ $16 for the D-link apple supported one. (26 - 10 rebate). I am in no way affiliated with this company, but I have had great experiences with them. They have low prices and ship very quickly.

no problems reading text on my air, and seeing as the pinch out feature is so well implemented, you shouldn't have any issues. the 13 inch MBA is a brilliant computer, you'll love it

Hey guys,
So... I put the battery back into my computer, connected it to a power supply, andddd... *drum roll*... nothing. Nada. It won't turn on. The light for the power supply isn't on, as if it doesn't register that it's plugged into a computer. The battery shows 5 lights when the little button is pressed, but I guess that doesn't matter.
So I decided I might as well crack her open and have a look to see if I can find any moisture or obvious signs of breakage. My warranty is already up (plus massive water damage would void it) so I can get away with opening it up without any repercussions.
I followed an online guide, took up the keyboard... and it was filthy. Everything was covered in a thick layer of dust, plus a lot of accumulated fluff beneath all of the keys and in lots of the crevices.

So I cleaned most of it very gently with some clean non-fluffy cotton buds and tweezers. I put it all back together and tried it once more - but no, no difference.
I'm going to take it into an Apple Store to see if they can tell me what's wrong with it (other than a faulty fan, maybe?)

Hello all, I am brand new to Mac with a Macbook Air. I have managed to fumble through and edit one of my wildlife videos. There is one question and a couple of related items that I have not found an anwer to.
Finishing a Project - This renders in 4 different formats for me, 1080, 720, large, and medium. I understand that the different formats are for different applications, but I don't need all four versions for every video.
Is there a way to either choose a format or delete the ones not being used.
Thanks much. :)

I like it.
The sad part is knowing that we'll never be able to seen him perform it live. That was half of the excitement of new Michael albums.
I don't think we'll ever see another performer like him.

Hey, all, thanks in advance.
My campus has had problems recently with the internet being slow, dropping the connexion, etc. Usually I can go into system preferences and network, then use the "assist me" feature to fix things without any trouble.
But right now my friend isn't able to get her MacBook to connect at all She's tried restarting numerous times without any luck. Either it says there's no IP, or that it's authenticated via PEAP. Any tips for her? :/
