^^^^ Yes, I just tried the one at Target, and the lighting and not to mention the fact I have to bend way over to play the unit (at kids' level) makes it hard on the eyes...
I basically stuck a card on the counter and the game made some boxes appear on my counter. It then started doing things like making the counter look like it was warping and then made a dragon pop out which I was supposed to kill. I was surprised how well the gyroscope works - much better than the iPhone's. I also thought Face Raiders would be dumb and it was but it was also kinda fun, watching my kitchen wall explode into fragments.

Are you people seriously applauding this? What a waste of our tax dollars!! I do contracts with the Navy every single day and I know that the technology that they have will not be benefited by the use of iPad/iPod/iPhone. The military does not offer wi-fi to their staff on base. Everything is hard wired and the conduit is sealed with a tamper proof silicon. The Government is very very particular about their SIPRnet (as they call it). Without wi-fi, what use is the iPad for the military other than to give them a little treat and waste our tax dollars? They already have mobile equipment in the vehicles that is far superior to Apple's products.

My father-in-law is a retired Naval Flight Officer, an electrical engineer, and works for SPAWAR in San Diego. He does not like Apple, he likes to do things the hardway and is stuck with windows, even though he concedes things like the iPhone have better technology than his Blackberry (The Blackberry's touch screen pushes down and triggers a touch vs. on an iPhone you just touch it, similar to putting a folder over your keyboard and calling it a touchkeyboard - keys are still being stroked).

My father-in-law has also submitted proposals to deliver millions in savings to the gov't by utilizing off-the-shelf components for USN,USCG, and USMC systems. He has been consistently squashed by higher-ups, some of them who are younger and maybe even Apple users, and they have virtually shut him up in favor of proprietary systems that utilize government contracts to make new systems that are COSTING THE TAXPAYERS MILLIONS. The simplified version is called waste, fraud, and abuse.

Ala Carte Channels would cause some channels to go away, on the other hand it would allow other channels to thrive and flourish, because the channels people really wanted to watch would get the most revenue.
I don't want to overpay for the 10 channels I want so 20 other channels I don't care about can continue to exist. Let the marketplace sort it out. It certainly would not actually make channels appeal to a wider demographic, it would probably be the opposite really, as small strong niches carry the day and carry their channels and the programming.

i actually think apple will probably come up with something that takes existing features/wants/needs of current smartphones/3G phones/etc. and defines/redefines the category somehow, much the way the iPod, while still doing things other players did when it was released, defined all HD based players after it.
You're right, of course. I neglected to mention that in my post, and now that I think about that, maybe they will turn the tide on the current cycle of constant update/refresh.
Generally, Apple's products are true innovations. One would only hope that the iPhone would follow that track record.

I disagree, very very small discount
Apple should have extended the full education discount of 14% to students. As much as I love Apple's products, they're very much an overly greedy company these days. They're also possibly being myopic, as students are highly likely to buy content for the device IMO

But back to Office. I still prefer the Windows version however the Mac version is starting to grow on me. Were it not for MS CRM that I use at work, I could finally be rid of Windows once and for all. But, alas, no dice. Love how CRM works ONLY with IE.
I agree the windows version is way better. But it's not worth running Parallels all the time to get it. The Mac version is good enough. (At work I do run Parallels all the time for other reasons, though, and I therefore I almost exclusively use the Windows version of Office.)

that's not a bad route to go at this point. but remember, for gpu folding you have to use windows, at least for now.

thats what i was thinking about the mac pro, load one up with 4 gfx cards, or a hackintosh running osx, windows on bootcamp using the extra gfx cores and the main F@H on the OSx side with the cpu,

I felt the same way as Woz when the iPad was first announced. A great product for my wife but not for me, I need my macbook.
Then I was assigned to develop iPad apps and got one. My wife still doesn't have one, but I won't leave home without mine. I can remote into my home or work mac when needed, have all my music and video and docs with me always.
Sure, I won't write code on it but for pretty much everything else this is it. Basically it is a window into the world, erasable paper, portable media.
I've also got a blackberry, a windows phone, a Galaxy, a Dell Streak and a Xoom on my desk right now (and a Playbook on the way) and just can't understand how they all missed the mark when Apple has been showing them the way for the past year.
I've become a believer in the iPad.

Yes, T-Mobile uses 2100 Mhz, which iPhone supports, but they also use 1700 Mhz, which no iPhone yet supports. You'd need both to use T-Mobile's 3G network.
It would be much easier to add the 1700 Mhz band than to create a CDMA iPhone, though I think both are likely.
Hopefully Verizon accepts fate and just switches to GSM like Bell and Telus (former CDMA stalwarts) did up here in Canada.
Mind you, Rogers, Fido, Bell, Telus and Virgin all sell the iPhone - all for the same price and same monthly fees. So competition isn't always better.

If you want to power the temperature change yourself, you need a high current. But if you want to generate electricity from them, then just connect them into a circuit with out any powersupply i.e. stick a fan's power terminals on that, stick one side of the TEC on a hot chip or cup of tea etc. to setup the delta T. (temp difference) then the fan will start spinning!

Furthermore, even if you could harvest that electricity and store it, the added energy would be less than 0.1% of a typical laptop battery. :rolleyes:

Are they given a formal training by apple? Even if they are, every approvers view will be slightly different.....perhaps this app was one that should have been approved from the start but was rejected by an approver who likes to abuse power?

Not sure what all the fuss is about the backlit keyboard... I don't think I ever found that feature to be useful on my MBP.. I guess if you type "pecking" style it's pretty useful..
On the 11incher I would love to see:
1. SD card slot
2. 3G or 4G
Otherwise some incremental improvements on memory, cpu, battery life, would all be great!

Growing marketshare is a lot more difficult than some of you (not all) may imagine. If Apple had a sudden increase, they would not be able to support it. They would find some suppliers who would be unable to quickly ramp up for the extra demand. Their assembly plants would be overwhelmed, as would their transportation infrastructure.
Growing their business must be performed in a strategic and systematic way. On the plus side, they have a solid cash reserve to this. But, they are extremely diverse and have new products coming down the line. The best thing they can do is increase sales in new markets, keep their profits high, maintain their lead in engineering and start increasing capacity.
Many people have posted about having a mid-level tower, highly configurable, and placed between the imac and Mac Pro. I suspect Apple would like this as well. However, it takes a different kind of assembly line to make machines like this, and still keep the price low. It also takes more work in the sales to work order process to make it happen efficiently. I think this may be a possibility once Apple can get the infrastructure in-place to manage it. They most certainly need additional manufacturing capacity right now. This could very well be in work.
