Just wondering how Japan perceives Apple as a company - if anyone knows. I know they don't like Microsoft (as in Xbox). I can't imagine they sell many Apple computers over there. Ipods a different story?
Last I remember, Japan and Korea tend to show loyalty to Japanese companies, hence Sony playstation doing well in Japan. I also remember reading that iPod is #3 in like Japan, a #4 in Korea or something.

Something I'd like to see is a rackmount SDXC RAID array. Think how many sd slots would fit in a 1U array. I know, probably won't happen, but still interesting to see.

someone explain this to me.....wouldn't activating push notifications absolutely KILL my iPhone 3GS battery life?? I've never been able to figure out if push notifications are bad to turn on cause they drain battery life?

they do a little but not to the extent of background processes, and having 20 push apps takes no more battery life than having 1, unless you get very frequent pushes from them of course.

Are you people seriously applauding this? What a waste of our tax dollars!! I do contracts with the Navy every single day and I know that the technology that they have will not be benefited by the use of iPad/iPod/iPhone. The military does not offer wi-fi to their staff on base. Everything is hard wired and the conduit is sealed with a tamper proof silicon. The Government is very very particular about their SIPRnet (as they call it). Without wi-fi, what use is the iPad for the military other than to give them a little treat and waste our tax dollars? They already have mobile equipment in the vehicles that is far superior to Apple's products.

Normal people need to type documents, play little flash/java web games that their friends mail them, view youtube videos, facebook, and watch movies.
I'd say current tablets can really only do half of that well. A tablet with a slide out keyboard and Flash&Java could do the other half :p

Push Notifications are when your phone automatically checks for updates, alerts etc. without you having to open the app right? I guess it's just misleading to me because when I hear "push" notifications, I think of something that happens when I push the app or open it up.

No, PN is when the Apple Push Notification server tells your phone you have a notification. The apps do not need to be running. Its suppose to save you battery life by not having multiple apps open all the time.

I moved the Forum Posts category into the Mac Guides category. I don't think it deserves to be listed on the main page since it's more a secondary categorisation of articles and not generally a logical place to look for something.

Some brief comments on the Guides category since I'm not sure everyone fully understands its purpose; it contains 'how to'-type articles as opposed to encyclopaedia-type articles, so it's not just a catch-all. Having said that, it might not be the most logical categorisation structure so I'm not completely against removing it.

The problem with the guides category as it stands is that a lot of the articles should be somewhere else as well or just somewhere else. I think the best way forward is to give every article in it another category unless it really isn't appropriate and then go and recover any articles that are actually tips like that.
It'll need need a bit more work, but it'll make sure nothing is missed.

I think some of you are confused as to what �Carrier preferences� means. It�s not saying anything about which iPad is selling better. All it says is which iPad people would �like� to have. It doesn�t even mean which they �do� have. (AT&T iPad owner might want the Verizon one because of the bad service). So a AT&T iPad user �may� show under the Verizon numbers. Also its no shock the AT&T iPad is harder to acquire. Its most likely due to customers being �use� to the company. (example: mom buying her son an ipad will go to AT&T if they have AT&T phones.)
Remember a good deal of iPhone customers are still AT&T customers. So when they bought their iPad why not just by the AT&T one. So since the mass �I� users are already with AT&T it only makes sense that that iPad would sell better. Also understand that not all AT&T customers hate AT&T.

There is a new app called "Server" which seems to be similar to the current "Server Preferences." I always find Server Preferences to be a joke.
Server Admin is still their, but all the Services that "Server" covers are not in Server Admin. Thankfully NetBoot and SUS are still in place as is DNS. What they may be doing is using "Server" for the consumer. And keeping more advanced features like DNS, OD, etc in Server Admin.
Notably missing from File Sharing is NFS and their are no advanced file sharing options in Server Admin.
All in all, I am pretty disappointed. I would much prefer the "Server Preferences" and "Server Admin" arrangement that is currently in SL Server. I definitely would not say this is fulling featured. At this time it is a giant downgrade

Their renewed partnership is because there used to be a DirecTivo (which was a dvr separate from the other boxes) that was launched back in 1999 and went through a series of upgrades until 2007.
Their current software found in their boxes is done in house, I know a few people who test it.
I know a few people here in Santa Clara who wrote it ;-)
