I already donated and came over to macrumors to plead his case. I'm glad you beat me to it.
Well... it WILL set a precedent and you will see apple going after jailbreakers... And they have MORE muscle than SONY.
Now.. on the other side...
If Geohot wants a donation... Jailbreak 4.3 untethered and you will get a handsome donation from me.
There is supposedly an untethered Jailbreak for 4.3 ready, but they generally wait until the actual release of an OS revision so that Apple doesn't patch whatever hole they're using. Wait to hold your breath until Apple releases the final rev of 4.3.

Either that, or let them keep yours and get them to get you a new one for Christmas. ;)
That's just plain rude :D
Personally, I think trying to get your hands on a G4 iBook with USB 2.0 might be a better bet.
Yeah, that sounds good, as they'd definitely need the Airport card and USB 2.0.
Thanks :)

Hi.
I'm a new Mac user after having dealt with PC's for way too long, and I'm certain that I'll never look back to Windows ever again. I love my MacBook Pro to death, and I especially love Mac OS.
I have some money to spend, and there is a nice looking iMac G4 on a surplus website that I am extremely interested in purchasing if the price is right. Right now, it looks as though the price will stay pretty reasonable given that there is only 1 day and 21 hours left until the auction ends, and current bid is less than $65 dollars.
Here's the iMac that I'm interested in buying: From the pictures it looks to be a nice Mac.
I'd love to know anything and everything that I should know about this iMac whether the information is good or bad. What can you tell me about it?
From the pictures, it looks like it is running Leopard, so that seems nice (even though I'm used to Snow Leopard on the MBP).
There are a few things I'm hesitant about. Because it is a non-Intel Mac, I'm basically out of luck if I want to watch YouTube videos, play games that require Flash, etc. Right? YouTube does have a HTML5 beta version of the website, so would that work on a non-Intel Mac? I mainly browse forums, Yahoo! chat, etc. I should be fine, I think. I wouldn't kill me to watch YouTube videos or anything that required Flash on the MacBook Pro.
Would I be able to browse the internet using AirPort on this iMac?
Is there anything else that you think I should know before potentially buying this Mac?
Thank you SO much! I appreciate it! :)

I've always heard the 6pin variant referred to as FW600 while FW400 was reserved only for the mini 4pin which doesn't have power. I realize it may not be technically correct but it's always allowed easier differentiation between the two connectors.
I've always heard of the 4-pin being referred to as iLink on Sony devices or mini firewire everywhere else.
I thought FW400 and 800 refer to the speed, so 600 makes no sense to me at all.

How dependable will your Mac be in 10 years? I'd say it's pretty much irrelevant. Do you really think you'll be using the same computer in 10 years?
I converted to a Mac for the first time last year at this time. I researched a bunch of stuff online and watched a number of videos to see the differences between Mac's and PC's. Once I got the Mac, I got the hang of it pretty quickly.
In terms of security, I don't use any security software and I haven't noticed any problems.
For file organization, I'd say it's very easy to keep files organized.

To be honest, I think the only way to achieve 100% Excel compatibility is to, well, use Excel.
I mean for ordinary personal stuff I'm sure cross-compatibility will be no problem. But if you are running a business in which you are constantly sending and receiving Excel files, I'd probably just bite the bullet and continue to use Excel.
It may be somewhat easier to achieve good results with Excel than Word though, since spreadsheets typically are less focused on style and formatting.
And not only Excel, but to 100% guarantee things look the same, you need to use the PC version (if you're dealing with PC customers) and you need to make sure you use a font that they have, the same screen resolution they are running, etc.

I've had a similar experience on several occasions, most recently today. I have my inbox sorted by date received, with newest mail at the top, but for some reason new mail (received 'Today') will be at the bottom. Mail received 'Yesterday' will be at the top.
My message counter (in the dock icon) will indicate new mail, but when I look for it (at the top of my date-sorted list), it won't be there. I have to scroll down to the bottom of the list, and there, below the oldest of my already-read e-mails, is my new mail.

I'm trying to fix 5 year old Macbook for some one .The problem is hard-drive space used up but the person has very little pictures ,music and work on the computer.
Some how only 7GB free of the 80GB hard-drive.
There is a similar thread http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=672477
Thread never got resolved.
well normally when I'm trying fix the same problem on PC running windows it is do to.
1.Bad sector
2.swap file /page file
3.hidden OS system support files
4.malware
5.windows files to keep OS running and windows needs lots of files and I mean lots, lots and lots of files!!!
But do not have that much experience here. What could the problem be.
I would try emptying all of the caches first (I once reclaimed 50 gb doing this!). There are freeware tools such as Onyx that will do this for you.
You could also use a tool like diskinventory to identify any large swap files that might be hanging around.

Since there is Airtunes, Airport, Airbook would be a possible name...
If not this is refering to AirTV...
Just speculation.

Try an IBM Thinkpad... in reviews, they often mention the quality of the keyboard, and having had one for a while, I would agree.

The official TRIM support is already in Snow Leopard builds for the new Macbook Pros with SSDs and it's in Lion as well. The official support is only for the Apple's SSDs, no TRIM support for third party SSDs. There is a way to enable it for any SSD that supports TRIM, but it is a hack. Here's the thread: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1125400
Apple are usually conservative about their SSDs, they don't go for the top of the line SSDs. So, it is normal to see conservative speed from Apple's SSDs.
TRIM enabler is a hack, and some people have reported that their read/write speeds have dropped significantly after installing it on their macs. I'm worried that it even does the job, but I am guessing it just changes the kernel so that instead of saying 'No' it says 'Yes' under TRIM support in SERIAL-ATA.

I finally got to it last night. Thanks for the advice guys. I took off the keyboard and trackpad piece, took off the left speaker assembly, and then the airport card cage, and my airport extreme card was underneath it. I took it out and found some pretty nasty corrosion on it. Put it back together, booted up.
She works!!!!!!!!!!!:D
For those who didn't catch it, I found my powerbook in a puddle of water one morning on my desk.:( Someone I know had an Ibook that would turn on like mine did but not boot up when his airport card wasnt in perfectly, so he said I should try taking the card out. It works! The keyboard on the other hand is fried. I need a new one.:o

so, since you own it how do you feel about it? What was the last mouse you used and how does it compare? What is your honest opinion about its battery life and tracking ability? What mouse pad are you using if its something other than your normal average joe mousepad. I was thinking about getting this mousepad (http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/accessories/6adc/) if it'll make a difference. Just lemme know...
