An anonymous reader sent in these images which claim to be photos of a prototype (DVT-1) 5th Generation iPod Touch. According to the submitted the front has a capacitive home button, back with markings of DVT-1, and connected volume buttons. The settings also show a 128GB capacity.

Why not just set Chrome's tab settings to open all links in a new tab? Or get an add-on if that setting isn't in Chrome by default?
I've searched for a Chrome add-on that would let me change the keyboard shortcut, but again I found nothing

I have a dual 450, and I play WCIII all the time, if anything, it's faster than my friends Athlon 2100+. I notice no choppiness and my computer is 3 years old. I have 2x AGP and PC100 RAM, and my computer is still fast, not fastest, but I have a fast computer, no doubt about it. And one other thing, yeah my friend might be able to say, crunch more SETI blocks, but as for actual usefullness, I do week-long calculations in Mathematica for my patent (when I can give up WCIII :) But they're a week long, because they're a week long, not because the computer is slow, it would still take a fast computer 4 days to do) and can still USE my computer while it's calculating. So as it doing that I can still check my mail or come here once in a while, without having to worry about jeopordizing my calculation.

Wait, how does Exchange being database driven have anything to do with Firewall ports of POP/IMAP protocols exactly ? Exchange does the same POP/IMAP protocols and if you want your phones to access the system using those protocols on an Exchange server, you'll have to open the same firewall ports... Are your 2 statements even related ? Do you even realise Zimbra's backend is also database driven, except they use a much more standard RDBMS (MySQL) rather than Exchange's proprietary EDB format (which is loosely based on MDB, since both use the JET database engine, a far inferior database format that's more akin to SQLite than to a real RDBMS).
But of course, you know all of this right ?
And are you suggesting that push based e-mail requires a "database driven" backend in any sort of way ? Because that would be quite ludicrous a claim a to make. And of course, are you suggesting only Exchange does push based e-mail ? Because that would be ignoring Zimbra's Z-Push functionality...
The fact is, AD, Exchange, they are so widespread exactly because of what I said earlier : Microsoft got their monopoly from IBM in the 80s and then proceeded to leverage at every chance to make solutions that do not inter-operate well. AD is integrated into Windows client tightly, it's a pain to make it work for anything else as far as SSOs go. Exchange is a success thanks to Outlook's widespread use, which is thanks to Office's dominance, which achieved it through Windows widespread use on the desktop.
This is typical Microsoft modus operandi and why I have ethical and moral reasons to not work with their products as much as I can personally help it.
Your SQL server example is also short-sighted. A 1/4 the cost of Oracle ? No duh, you're getting 10% of the product. Typical though that people look for Oracle when their needs don't even require it. It's just the best there is right now, and of course, you have to pay for that. However, you don't always need the best, in fact, Oracle is overkill for about 90% of RDBMS use out there.
This is all moot, the subject of this thread is Apple hiring a Data center manager, not a product manager, that used to work at Microsoft. I see no problem in this, the guy is probably very qualified.

I'm sure that this works for a lot of people, but not me.
I travel frequently in the Adirondacks where there NO AT&T service, not even Edge. The whole concept of the ADK region is for it to remain pristine forest and mountain, unspoiled by cell towers. That concept isn't going to change without a NYS Constitutional Amendment, and that is not going to happen in our lifetime.
I think the whole point of having GPS on the iPhone is to be able to get maps as needed. Garmin is missed the boat.

Intel's line doesn't leave much room for a bump... unless Apple is going to use the Core and Core 2 processors as a product differential. Talk about gay considering the two kinds of chips costs pretty much the same.
theres almost no difference in processor speed between the MB and MBP now. it would be smart for mini and Mb's to core 2 also since there the same price. but it's hotter and duo works so maybe just MBP tommorrow.

Yeah, Tom Tom is finally getting this right after all kinds of problems. Once a week (if you choose) you get prompted to download a 1 meg'ish patch. You can do it anywhere and it patches the existing stored maps, no live feed necessary. Takes about 5 seconds.
You do need live feed for traffic, but of course, that is the whole point of that.
BTW, their traffic is awesome now and the routing bugs are finally fixed. Also, their crowd sourced arrival times are the most accurate on any of the platforms and it consistently chooses the shortest route.
I was a Garmin lover and wanted it to desperately come to the iphone, but not with maps like this. Now that Tom Tom is finally getting it right, I won't be getting this.

What are people mainly using the Push for? I certainly wouldn't want to be updated every time one of my friends posts on Facebook... I know there are different settings - just wondering what kind of updates people use this for.

You should have worried more when cell phones got GPS for emergency response service. GPS allows real tracking, and phones allow long-range data transmission, all tied to your phone account, address and payment info.
In the face of that, how does adding a radio tag (as already used for lots of things) that communicates a few inches make a phone so much scarier?

So, how long does GameStop take to send the beta code? I just preordered... wish I could start the download while I'm waiting for the code...
Supposedly, according to Gamestop, within 1 business day, although some other posts I have come across seem less optimistic (maybe they're just trolls...)
Either way, I put in a pre-order, if I don't get my beta key before too long I might cancel, I might not... I'm more of a digital download fella anyway...

Second that. There's a niche market (I think) amongst a few for film. Unfortunately, its become really expensive proposition. Even if you pay $2 for a roll and $10 for developing/processing, its crazy expensive compared to digital. If they could some how make it cheaper it could be successful.

So how is google going to deal with this health care debacle ? We're issuing First Aid kits to all google employee's and going from there, hows Apple dealing with it? My wife (AT&T 3GS) had a 7AM alarm set for this morning. It did not go off like it was supposed to. She was woken up by the 30 minute warning ding for her 8AM calendar entry which apparently did adjust properly. Her phone time was correct, the alarm just didn't go off.
