The "far east country" (or at least one of them, more earlier) is Australia. The "convention" field listing country TT (Trinidad and Tobago) application 37090 confirms that the Ocean Telecom Services LLC is in all likelihood an Apple shell corporation.

The fact that a big sticking point in all of this was the social conservative nonsense about abortions and planned parenthood is just ridiculous. If this is all that many of our politicians can think about in times like these, we're ********** doomed.

Only until the remaining stock of Gen 1's sell out, then things should get better. I have a 64GB 3G Gen 1 and a 64GB 3G Gen 2 and I still think the original model is perfectly fine.
Actually... I think the price for iPad 1st gen has already been this low. If you wanted to sell, you should always sell right before Apple upgrades. That way, you get the most bang for your buck upgrading and the most buck for your bang selling.

There's already a thread on this. Just as I did in that one, I think it's incredibly sad. The irony in what the RATM croud are trying to achieve is particularly amusing.
Not half as sad as the machine of mediocrity that is Simon Bloody Cowell's monopoly on our christmas number ones.

Hmm...I have a feeling both the iPhone and iPhone Pro will be flash-based though. But I think you're right they will both be slider phones. I think the iPhone "slim" phone will basically be like a shorter, wider iPod nano with a slightly larger screen and a slide-out keyboard - so it will be about twice the thickness of a nano. The larger iPhone Pro will be like a narrower iPod, maybe with a portrait screen orientation instead of landscape, and will again have a slide-out keyboard. I expect that the iPhone will have something like 2 GB and the iPhone Pro something like 4 GB or even 8 GB. I would be pleasantly surprised if either of these models had any expandable storage, but I doubt it. I think they will initially launch without expandable storage, and then add it later in the second generation of iPhones...
yeah yeah... thats what i meant.... i just mean the form of the 80gb ipod... an 80gb hd might be a bit overkill... but im just lookng at my ipod sitting on the table next to my treo 650, and the 650 looks so dated... i remember when that seemed so cool, but looking at them side by side they look like different decades... something the same size and design as the ipod 80gb, where at the bottom it slides and exposes a qwerty keyboard... stellar

Yep. This so called and touted Outlook Calendar/iCal sync feature has been a huge FAIL. Simply does not work and there's a bit of noise about it growing on the www. What a huge failure in their testing department!!! :mad:

Yeah, I am pretty sure the main culprit is the GT 7800 card. I am thinking in get rid of it or pressure Apple to upgrade for a better card.

I figured this out last night poking around in System Profiler on the new Mac Mini display unit in the local Apple Store. There was a new, separate entry for "Card Reader" that I hadn't seen before. Lo and behold, there it was, "SDXC", supporting 2.5GT/s (that's 2.5Gbps before taking into account the all the data transfer protocol overhead).
Doing some more poking, I found in the Ethernet section the fact that the new Minis use a Broadcom BCM57765 (http://www.broadcom.com/products/Ethernet-Controllers/Enterprise-Client/BCM57765) controller�which just happens to also include the memory card reader controller, which supports SDXC.
The ultimate transfer speed will depend on the card used. Some are a lot slower than others. Looks like the card reader was "free" with the ether controller. I can see this making sense on a laptop so you don't have to carry around an extra dongle but I would rather just have an extra USB on a desktop, especially since the damn thing is on the back.

Wouldn't using the "extra" electricity to power fans to decrease heat lead to less "extra" electricity???? :rolleyes: I hope they really think this through - and I'm sure they will. Of course powering fans isn't the only use for electricity.
Using the electricity to power fans would actually improve the efficiency if the thermoelectric device is placed between the processor and the fan. This would increase the thermal gradient and generate more power than if you were relying solely on heat dissipation to get your gradient.
The only problem with this solution is that high efficiency thermoelectric materials, by design, have low thermal conductivities, so it would not be a good idea to place this between the chip and the heat sink.
I am also skeptical about the claim of 30% efficiency. If we had thermoelectric materials that operated at that efficiency, we could all say goodbye to refrigerator compressors and turbine generators in favor of devices with no moving parts, higher reliability, and no CFCs.

Consumer Reports gave the iPhone 4 the highest rating out of every smartphone last year. They said it was a good phone, but couldn't recommend it due to the antenna design.
The same is done with cars. A few years ago, the Passat was the highest rated sedan. CR didn't recommend it due to previous reliability woes. Their system is fairly simple to understand, and quite useful.
CR is, IMO, the best starting point to find out if a product is reliable or has a known defect. From there, I expand my research with more detailed reviews.

This is great, now :apple: seem to be back on track to continuously release improved hardware technology.
It was sad when they took away the Firewire out of the iPod.
Something like the European requirement, in the US the cable TV providers have to provide firewire equipped cable boxes, so the users can get Firewire video out them. Normally you have to ask for it, and they have to give it to you.
Thunderbolt will kick ass.

It is not a typo, but look at the full statement: There have been rumors of Aperture updates and possibly MacBook updates at this event.
You have neglected two key words, "rumors" and "possibly." Those two words in combination like that shouldn't get your hopes up that much for a MacBook update. :(

I agree that you're taxing the wrong thing. If you tax mileage rather than gas, you're not encouraging higher fuel economy the same way a gas tax would. The ones who burn more fuel should brunt the burden. It's a lot easier to get a more fuel efficient vehicle than it is to make your necessary commute shorter.
