it doesn't really make business sense for them to wait longer to do the iPhone 5, so many customers expect it around June and they save up and sell their old phone, also 12 month iPhone4 contracts and 24month 3Gs contracts expire in June!
Apple knows what it's doing, no other company has ever had people so eager to give them their money for something they know nothing about yet.
if there's no new iPhone, all these potential expectant customers might just buy an android.

The "Apple Tax" is largely just in the mind. PC Magazine, and several tech blogs, have had comparisons and found that a Mac is cheaper than machines from some Windows machines (I think Sony and Dell were more expensive but I could be wrong). Out of five tested, the Mac was in the middle.
I did the math, and gave it up after I had consistently lousy experiences with every version of Windows I used, with hardware from a variety of well known manufacturers.
I will happily spend the imaginary premium if it provides with a stable operating system.

Ill agree with you on Lack of Education and Religious Extremism. Resentment, somewhat. I tend to think that if we just leave them the heck alone to do whatever they want and be as Shariah as they please we will see less terror attempts.
Terrorism typically arises from some sort of injustice. I think there is some truth to the clich "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter." But "leaving them alone" is somewhat problematic as long as we support multinational enterprise that seeks to extract maximum profit in every corner of the world. Even if the business s not based in America, America is the most prominent target.
I know it is not apples-to-apples, but I was wondering if anyone has seen the National Geographic on North Korea? One part that struck my nerve was at the end when the doctors were removing the bandages from the patients eyes, one of the North Koreans first thing to do was go praise a poster of Ill and promise to "Destroy the american scum with my new eyes" or something like that, despite the fact that much of the equipment used to complete the surgeries was American made and American funded IIRC.
Most likely, the government expects this sort of show of loyalty, when they are paying for your treatment. If you do not do this, you would probably labeled as seditiously ungrateful and they would find some way to make your life miserable.

I think most people that show hatred to sandy bridge CPU are owners of late 2010 MBA. Bias imo.
+1 I agree. They tend to not accept that Apple will release something that is potentially better (at least CPU-wise) and newer than what they have. In case "Icaras" says I'm dictating whatever again, that is my perception, my personal opinion.
I would definitely take sandy bridge over what is essentially a 5+ year old CPU.
I don't think the new Intel graphics is horrible as some people suggest. But then again, I am only a light gamer.
If you set the settings to low, you can pretty much run anything on anything. I remember being able to run Crysis on a GMA950.
Yea, it's definitely not THAT bad. It's not a dedicated card of course, but it's not like as bad as it was back then in the GMA days. Heck, the 3000 is better than the current card I'm using, the 9400M.

I was really looking forward to this, but not having the maps on the device is a no go for me. I ditched tom tom in favour of a stand alone Garmin years ago and haven't looked back since. I'm currently using navigon on the iPhone as my Garmin unit is a bit flakey these days.
Sort it out Garmin please! Hopefully this will be rectified before the app is available in the Uk store..... I hope anyway

I don't know what to tell you. Couple days after I installed 10.4.7 , major issues happened on my quad. I end up with my computer at Apple for repair and 3 weeks later they figure out a combination of 10.4.7 and my GT7800 card were the issue.
Now, I have a new GT card and I use 10.4.6. The kernel comes once a week. So the problem in some way still persist. I hope the new 10.4.8 will address this issue. If not I'll go back to Apple and request a new computer in exchange for the one I have.
I don't know, I love my quad but I have to say I was pretty upset with this whole fiasco. I wish Apple had a loaner program for professionals using powermac. That way we can still productive while the computer is being repaired. I would not mind to pay a little more on applecare to get such a service.Sorry I don't have that video card in mine so I can't report replication of the problem. Sorry to hear that. Bummer.

hmm, what are the chances of there being prototype iphones linked to tmobile and verizon's networks existing in the 'wild'? i'm assuming that while websites such as MR can tell what kind of device (ie, ipad, imac, etc) is connecting to their servers, there isn't a way a to tell which network it's connecting from (ie, att, verizon, comcast)..?

IMO the older silver MBP's are nicer looking than the current unibody design.
If the old design had the same thickness as the new ones and the same unibody structure, I'd be all over it!

Just goes to prove that Consumer Reports will tell you a lie and then show you a picture of it.

It's probably a QC issue. Some are thicker while others are not.

Push updates seem intermittent today, they were working well yesterday!!
I agree; intermittent today for some reason. I'm only getting some alerts, but not all. And the sound which was working yesterday has stopped today.

I doubt its a feature we will see on any future versions of Mac OS X.
It isn't happening on login, as there is a picture and a quicktime movie being opened as it is all happening.
And see how everything is coming in from off the screen.
It looks like some sort of animation they have made as a demonstration, not something they have done with the actual OS.
But it certainly is interesting, and the shadow effect is very cool.

I expect that 10.4.8 will be required for Aperture 1.5 (as OS updates are normally required to add RAW support for new cameras). A post on another forum (arstechnicas iirc) by someone who was at Photokina and had talked to someone from Apple said that Aperture 1.5 was scheduled to be available for download at the end of the show (October 1st)...
Aperture 1.5 lists 10.4.7 as the minimum requirement
