I agree Finder is slower than a snail. Many Mac fans live in denial about the s-l--o--w f----i-----n-------d--------e----r but it is a joke compared to XP. I love OS X and it would be easy to impress others with it's elegance if it weren't for the S-L--O---W F----I-----N------D-------E--------R.

Great! The pop-up menu on my documents folder in the dock just opened. Bye Bye.

Sorry, you don't use XP and OS X, then...XP is much slower and a simple piece of crap in regards to multitasking and multithreading...OS X is MUCH faster at that, and can deal with multiple windows, eye candy and different tasks WAAAAAAAAAY better than XP...and yes, I use both (XP for work, OS X at home).

This is so on the money.

I was just having lunch while watching a film on my iPad. Next table over a table of business people are showing off one of their new iPads. People respond so positively to the experience on so many levels it really has something for nearly everyone.

The important thing that apple got was that making great computers for 2% of the population, or smaller, was one thing. Making a great piece of hardware for 95% of the world something else entirely and much more lucrative.

Hong Kong, Japan & a few other countries have been using technology like this for a while. Hopefully it'll start being mainstream in Western countries soon.

Hong Kong uses a SMART type card for everything, transport, vending machines, etc etc.

Japan uses their mobile phones, AFAIK :P

Yeah, it is so wide spread in Japan that you can use it at little corner shops these days. Great technology.

Are iPods glass-fronted like the iPhone? If so, then removing the button may reduce the chance of shattering the screen when dropped. The edge of the circular cutout could be the weakest point of the glass on an iPhone.

I agree though, it would be a pain if you couldn't hold the device without the fear of accidentally triggering a touch sensitive button, as you can with the current physical button.

Is Apple thinking that SD cards are going to become the new "floppies"?

Many people who exchange files by 'sneaker net' use CDs, but don't need the capacity of a CD. Plus while rewriteable CDs exist, they are pricey and most people don't use them. Most files are exchanged a barely used CD that then gets shelved and collects dust.

Imagine if people started exchanging SD cards. Initially lower capacities only will be available, but soon CD equivalent SD cards will be available, and soon after that the 1 and 2 TB cards.

If Apple can create enough demand for cards, then economies of scale will bring prices down as they become a standard commodity.

As others have mentioned the bigger capacity ones would have all sorts of uses besides the exchange of files. Wow.

    Hmm.

It's funny how the capitalists are all for a free market...until it starts working against them.
Before I comment on the story - this is the free market in play. This appears to be a business dispute, not governmental involvement. The free market requires communication between businesses to maximize profits.

As for Target - this doesn't surprise me. No matter what people say about Wal-Mart, the WM return and service policy is golden. With Target, we got nothing but crap over our attempt to return a $17 sandwich maker that we got as a wedding present, but didn't need. WM doesn't carry it, otherwise we would have returned it there. Instead, T has determined that I must return it to them for an e-certificate (where they will deduct the cost of shipping - $7, I believe) that I can use to buy any item from their on-line store (plus shipping - about $7), netting me a gift of $3.

    Worst. Service. Ever.

I just use map quest application. It is a free application and offers voice-based turn by turn directions with street names and all. Traffic updates really aren't worth the extra $40 if you ask me. And half the time I shut off the screen and just listen to the voice direction to save battery life, so 3D maps are a mute point with me... OTA map pulling really isn't all that bad. It loads your entire route when you load your destination (unless its extremely long, like cross-country) so if you don't deviate from its directions, you won't need service again to pull directions.

I have only had 1 issue on OTA map pulling with Map Quest. I once took a different way then suggested and caused the unit to re-rout me automatically. However, at that moment I didn't have service (Thanks AT&T, I was in NYC...) so the app prompted saying "re-routing not available at this time" and then 1 minute later it re-rerouted me when I got service. Not bad. It does everything I want it to. The only thing I wish it had was traffic updates. I have no idea why anyone charges for this. We should get it free with our data packages...

Anyone know if there is a jailbreak version of this app or will it not work because it is authenticated on the server side?

I think everyone has really covered the bases here.

    I've actually never had surgery.

Just as the anesthesiologist to make sure he gives you enough anesthesia. There have been cases were patients are awake during the surgeries, but unable to move. It actually happens more than you would think its just that it usually for a very short period of time and you won't remember it if it does happen. Only in rare cases will you ever remember it. Some doctors do use brain activity monitors to make sure the patient isn't awake, but they are very expensive electronics.

I'm sure that wasn't really helpful, DON'T worry about it though. It won't happen to you, and if it does, you'll never know it did.

I wish you the best of luck in surgery. You'll do fine. If your really worried, do something you enjoy to get your mind off of it.

I'm already getting two iPad 2s for me & my wife & I saw this & wanted to get one for my daughter. My wife made a pretty good statement of "Do we need to go from no iPads to three in one house?"

Chalk up another version of "Wife said no."

And nobody said it was, or that you should repeat it indefinitely. But you can't expect people to get on board with severe cuts -- especially the ones they're now talking about to Medicare, Medicaid and SS -- if you're still overspending on defense, tax cuts for the rich, and corporate loopholes.

The government funds plenty of things, like libraries and parks, that aren't "necessary" but wanted. In the end it's all about how much we're willing to pay for. What's odd is that you see the middle class wanting to keep many of those services; it's the rich and the corporations that are screaming bloody murder about them.

Tax cuts isn't spending. That is the same thing as saying everything the government doesn't take from us is an expense to the government.

And the rich and corporations are screaming bloody murder about libraries and parks? Aren't most of those things handled by local governments except for the big ones?

I'm guessing it's just a prototype of some sort. We know that Apple tests out many different variations of hardware.

I'm with others in thinking that it would be inconvenient to have a capacitive home button for when it is accidentally pressed. My guess is that Apple knows this and has somehow figured out a solution, if this is indeed the direction they are going.

going to get there at about 1730; coming to london from uni by train, lectures finish at 4ish, just want to get a tshirt; already ordered lepoard online.
doubt there's going to be a massive queue, and its closed between 4 and 6pm, so 5:30 sounds like a sensible time to me.

how about meet by the computer with macrumors up on the screen?? preferably on the dual 30" ones.

    You are wrong.
Proven by Apples rising market share.;)

You cant keep saying that these ads are hurting apple if they keep selling more and more computers.
It makes no sense.:confused:Sure, they're selling more computers this quarter in spite of the ads.

They (the ads) have only been out, what, two months? Sales for the last quarter were in the bag before those commericals came out. Let's see how the next quarter is?

yea, their website looks like it was from 1998...

"If you're in a warm room, for instance, you'll have much lower performance, since it requires the differential to work. Of course, maybe the information available isn't wholly accurate, but that's my understanding based on the description."

If the chip operates at a relatively high temperature a differential shouldn't be hard to reach. For example, with the cell operating at 600 degrees there is not much of a differential change between room temperature and plus/minus 10 degrees.

The article hinted at efficiency between twenty to thirty percent. Wow. This would be a huge leap above thermocouple efficiency, such as in radioisotope thermoelectric generators (RTG's), which supposedly are only three to seven percent efficient.

The applications for this are huge and heat sources are readily available. I, for one, would prefer an alcohol powered cell over a RTG in my computer any day. That whole radiation poisoning thing could ruin my bowling average.

Kodak, just admit that you royally screwed up and missed the boat when the world went digital, don't try to suck money from the winners by suing them. Why not get the money from customers instead by making products that people actually want to buy.
