Most successful desktop operating system: Microsoft Windows.
Most successful server operating system: Microsoft Windows Server.
Most successful office suite: Microsoft Office.
Yes, having been given a monopoly over the IBM compatible PC platform by IBM themselves is quite a measure of how great Microsoft is. :rolleyes:
Their success is based on IBM's failure to realise how important that market would become. They have not built their success off of making good products.
And Microsoft Windows Server ? really ? Is it successful because I have to install 30 of those to run a simple SSO db like AD whereas I can run eDirectory off of 3 Sun boxes and achieve the same results with about 100 times more objects in the directory ?
But this story is about a guy who manages data center, not about Microsoft's rise to power and their illegal moves to remain at the top for years. And their data center seems to have been top notch, since you rarely hear of Windows update not working or Microsoft.com being down, or MSN messenger not responding or Hotmail.com being on the fritz.

All this image shows is that the person measuring the white iPhone 4 has no idea how to use a caliper. The idea of a caliper isn't to squeeze the crap out of whatever you're measuring. It is obvious that the in the right picture they are squeezing much harder just looking at the discoloration of the persons skin on their thumb.

No. Intel graphic card is not acceptable
Why are people acting like the new Intel Graphics are the return of the plague or something. They're not even that much worse than the 320m's and definitely better than the 9400m's in the generation before. Sandy bridge processors would more than make up for the slight performance decrease in the Intel GPUs.

Interesting story - nice read, especially with all the jokes. Here's another, you could have asked if her Apple offered a service to polish knobs... I mean, iPods. :D
Since efoto was getting his share of lumps about this I'll throw in my tale of woe regarding hitting on retail employees. Back several years ago I would go into this Walgreens (pharmacy/convenient store) fairly often. I had this one cute girl check me out (literally, ring up my order) a few times. I didn't think much of it. She seemed nice, pleasant. I never went there specifically to see her or anything, but when I was there if I did see her it was always a pleasant surprise.
One day I just decided I'd ask her out and I did the usual "I don't normally do this but you seem intriguing... yadda, yadda... would you like to go out sometime, etc". What did I hear back? "Well, I'm getting married next week." :o :eek: :o Yeah... not so much.
That's the price you pay for not being flirty very often, I can't even remember the ground rules. Look for a ring! Man, I felt stupid the few subsequent times I went to that store and she was there. I'm sure she felt awkward as well.

We are still in a transition period. There is zero reason to think 10.7 won't come on DVD. Not everyone -- actually most -- people in the U.S. do not have high speed broadband (4 Mbps or faster) service either because of cost or availability [stats here for the non-believers: http://www.oecd.org/document/54/0,3343,en_2649_34225_38690102_1_1_1_1,00.html] . It would be suicidal for Apple to ship a multi-GB OS only via download. Especially Apple home users, who bought into Apple because of it's ease of use, are not going to sit for hours as their new shiny OS downloads, then sit for another 15-30 min as it installs.

Since this is Zune launch day:
Seeing as apple now has a majority of auto makers making connectivity and now the airline industry is getting on board, this is a major blow to the Zune. Neither cars nor airplanes will come with every connection possible so that any media player can be used. This is a great step for apple and potential apple customers.
How about a built-in mag safe connector for the airplanes too? :)

Agreed we are spoiled. Unfortunately the U.S. has a horrible infrastructure as far as public transportation and such so many people live far from their jobs and have to drive everywhere.
I remember in New Zealand paying $4 something per liter :eek:
Here where I live at the Sheetz gas stations its $3.75.

Some older Mac Minis can have the CPU upgraded, but on both 09 Minis (they are very, very similar) the CPUs are definitely soldered on. This kind of info would be shown in a teardown of a Mac (these tend to be done fairly quickly after a new model is released)

It works well in IE7 even though I don't know why you would want to lay a finger on a PC :P ... KIDDING! I know that we mac users live in a world where PCs out number macs.
