PLEASE... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.... don't talk if you don't know what you are saying. I'm not perfect... but I can absolutely, ABSOLUTELY guarantee ... GUARANTEE YOU... that you CAN indeed boot XP from the new Macs WITHOUT BOOTCAMP WHATSOEVER.
That is how I have my iMac (24") setup...
The FIRST thing I did when I took her out of the box was insert the WINXP SP2 CD... (nothing slipstreamed)... and hold down the "c" key...
Voila! Booting into XP Setup... COMPLETELY FORMATTED THE ENTIRE 500GB DRIVE with XP... and she runs great.
I then attached an EXTERNAL FW800 RAID 0 Setup (1TB now)... and boot OS X off that external slice...
So... JUST SO YOU KNOW! Please try not to confuse the rest of the class Billy, uhmKay? ;)

That said, I'd bet money on DVD+Mac App Store being the two options. Maybe for 10.8 we'll see USB drives.

This $20 discount is a kick in the nuts from Apple.
It's in line with their CPP published prices for their computers, which see only modest $20-30 discounts over the education retail pricing for the 5- and 10-packs.
Since the iPad education retail price is $499 and the package price already down $20 to $479, it would be unusual for the pack to be discounted more than the iMacs and MacBooks. Honestly it's a bit of a surprise that they have the same package discount as the 13" MacBook Pro on the iPad. When you consider that they're already getting education pricing and tax exemptions, plus other perks and extras from their package purchase, it's not such a bad deal.
So how is it that Apple can only give the education sector a $20 discount per device when Amazon can buy this device from Apple (who is making a profit), resell it to consumers, AND STILL MAKE A PROFIT?
Profit might be an overstatement. It's my understanding that most resellers don't get more than a 10% discount over retail price from Apple, and Amazon is a master of the loss leader. It often sells iPods and other popular items at near-break-even to attract other sales. It famously sells its eBooks at a loss.
As far as I know, there aren't many electronics manufacturers that even offer education discounts, so it's difficult to hang Apple for not giving bigger discounts.
Most offer some form of institutional purchase discounts.

I remember having something my brother threw in my nose removed [damn little brother...] I screamed whenever the doctor came near me... The only way for them to remove it is to put me out... I remember one doctor held my head [since I was scared of needle too] and one inserting the needle... I could feel the liquid... then i looked at the light bulb and thought "there's a spot on the..." waking up is tiring indeed... you just feel so heavy, all you want to do is go back to sleep...

The military and the Army has had a "dialogue" with Apple for years... pretty much every project involving a piece of field equipment has gone to another manufacturer because of durability concerns.
The U.S. Military has been using Apple Computers for years. I know for a fact they were crucial in the development of RFID tracking used in logistics. They were also more difficult to hack into and required less IT support to maintain them in the field.

I picked up a 16GB yesterday for $299 and after using it last night I decided I should get another one so my wife and I aren't fighting over just one :). I ran out this morning and all the 16GB are gone so I picked up a 32GB for $399. The problem now is I still have an iPad2 on order from Apple due mid-April. I'm considering canceling the iPad2 and being content with the 2 first gen iPads.
I think these are perfectly fine and I'm sure there will be another revision next year. The only thing that would have tilted the scales for me to hold out for the iPad2 is if it had a higher resolution screen. The cameras do nothing for me and the weight and thickness I don't think will make much of a difference when just using it around the house.
Is that what others who are still buying the 1st gen are thinking too?

I was really looking forward to this, but not having the maps on the device is a no go for me. I ditched tom tom in favour of a stand alone Garmin years ago and haven't looked back since. I'm currently using navigon on the iPhone as my Garmin unit is a bit flakey these days.
Sort it out Garmin please! Hopefully this will be rectified before the app is available in the Uk store..... I hope anyway

I would say around $50, since it has the original box. Collectors like those original boxes.
I'd say $50 is a maximum, since most of us collectors already have them (I got mine for Free, and I see them got for $25-$50, even as new)

This is the case: I have three folding widgets running for over a week now, no problem in that week. I have three because I want to monitor someone behind me (Atszyman) and my next overtake in front of me. But when I just looked all three widgets where on Atszyman.
I had this problem too. It must be how it stores the data.

I think it would be cool to use your phone for payments and some of these other functions. Excited to see what the next version will bring.

Luckily none of you have a Mac Pro with build 8K1079. It is complete *****. Build 8K1079 is horrible, hell-half of System Preferences doesn't work, Rosetta can't keep PPC apps open, can't plug in some USB devices, can't restart without holding power button down, the curtain of death happens.....a lot. So many problems with build 8K1079 that we don't/can't use it at work here.

Apple could evolve the iPad to a central control for house appliances remotely and also become ubiquitous to anywhere we use paper! I'm hoping universities along with iTunes U consider this immensely - but with XServe gone on the back end with OS X Lion possibly also being dumbed down this may never happen. Tuition fees could drop considerably while students enjoy the work load � annotating the work, submitting documents in PDF digitally signed and on record via a local or wireless sync to an FTP site (GoodReader).

Anyone else think this is a little too public? And it's not a very comfortable place to sit having coffee�no matter how good the food is. I imagine a couple of billionaires could have found a more comfortable and more private place for coffee and a chat, unless they're being deliberately "public".
