The research note also included the results of a proprietary survey of over 2000 respondents in the United States conducted March 14-23, interestingly revealing 40% higher demand for the iPad 2 than in a similar survey conducted for the first-generation models in May 2010. According to the survey, 28% of respondents are either "very likely" or "somewhat likely" to purchase an iPad 2, up from 20% for the first-generation iPad last May.

No need for iPad 3 this year..........

It would be nice if this worked in the other direction as well--i.e., from a computer to an iOS/AirPlay device. (Yes, I know about AirFoil and friends.)

EDIT: Wait, can Home Sharing in 4.3 do this? (I don't have a 4.3 device...yet.) If so, I guess I can expand my wishlist to include non-iTunes media... :)

For your non iTunes video, check out this (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/air-video-watch-your-videos/id306550020?mt=8) app. I have it and really like it. You set it up on your computer, tell it where to look for supported video files, download the app on your iDevice, and streaming begins.

There is even functionality for converting to iTunes format, though I haven't messed around with that much, so I can't speak to its effectiveness.

Best 3 bucks I've spent on the App Store.

EDIT: Didn't see this response ahead of mine. Almost word for word...

You should check out Air Video (the iOS app). It's the best solution I've found and with iOS 4.3 it works great for streaming all the .avi and .mkv movies on my HD to my apple TV via my iPhone.

It goes (Air Video server on computer) -> iOS device -> Apple TV.

It was probably the best $2.99 I've ever spent.

The White iPhones are new and the black iPhones they are comparing them to are older devices.

The iPhone 4 is just so awesome that it shrinks over time. It is the new planned obsolescence/green solution. In 100 years they with shrink down to nothing.

Earlier this week I received an email with 2 keys, and will gladly give one away.
I used one for myself and I'm JJJ.fff on Battle.net.

Here's how to get my second key:
Follow me on Twitter (@JustinFreid), and @reply me with why you should get it. I'll give my extra key to the person who convinces me he or she most deserves it.

What I'm curious about is why blindly (for a lot of people) support a very successful band, wouldn't this have been a really nice little story if people rallied to buy a track from a smaller/upcoming band? Or maybe a real charity single or for something more deserving, like them soldier blokes or whoever.

Good points, but I think you're knit-picking. A smaller and more unknown song from a smaller and more unknown band wouldn't have had the same impact. Nearly everyone has heard of RATM, and I think that's what essentially sold it. The song, band and cause, all being about rebellion.

We've tried what you said before with something called Band Aid. The first time it was rather good and useful. The second time it sucked. The Americans also tried it and it sucked as well.

I think giving money to shelter is a very good thing to do. I'd certainly hate to be spending xmas alone on the streets, especially in this weather. Soldiers have a job, and it is their choice they wanted to join the army. By all means, they should get all the help needed, but I believe helping the homeless is much more kinder. Please don't shoot me down for that, I fully respect the troops fighting for us abroad, but it was their choice to do that, where as, being homeless, isn't.

Kinda agree i could seem myself using a iPad over my MBP when i am not working, having that separation from programming is what appeals to me.

I want to work when i work and not have to think when i am just browsing the web, in reality the iPad covers all my computing needs when i am not programming.

Though it would be lovely to have Aperture on the iPad to cover my hobby needs but it would require some from of local wireless storage access as i don't think many 25MB images would fit on 64GB.

Yep, it's those pesky 25MB images and 1080P video that keep me at my desk with my iMac. I would love to be able to touch up my full-sized images on the iPad. Give it 5 years.

The important pieces to note about the marketshare is that this definitely is coming from switchers, not from upgraders. If you look at the data, you will see that it's broken up between MacOS and MacIntel. The data for MacOS is just PPC people, and that actually remained constant throughout the year:

while the marketshare for MacIntel has been a nice parabolic curve:

Actually... my Samsung Focus (Windows Phone 7) updated itself at 1:59 to 3:00... I watched. I believe this is an Apple level problem, not Microsoft ;)

Phones keep time while they're off. Phone's also don't check to see what time it is, every hour, they check when they're turned on. The network provides a fallback, but the phone should know what time it is, too. There's no excuse for Apple's spotty coding. None.

i understand what you're saying, as soon as the phone is booted up, the time is pushed to the phone by the carrier.

the time was updating by the carrier right at 2AM to reflect the proper time changes. this has nothing to do with Apple's code. the only way i can see this being a problem is if the setting "set time automatically" wasn't enabled.

I think we can see it all around us that people are switching. Im a recent switcher myself and have had 2 Macs now in 12 months.

What im interested in though, is what effect Vista will have on the rate of switchers. Its fairly easy to get a casual PC user to switch on eye candy alone. Will this work when Vista out eye candys OSX?

Initially perhaps not as great as M$ would wish. For starters, the 6 versions of Vista will be plain confusing for many less-savvy PC owners. Particularly for those with PCs which are in that grey area whereby, for eg. they'll be able to run Vista starter, but not necessarily Vista basic; or they can easily run Vista basic, but Vista premium might struggle, etc. (Similar confusion will abound for some small businesses faced with Vista business or Vista enterprise). Most PCs won't of course be able to run Vista ultimate.

Then you'll have every hacker in the world subjecting Vista to all sorts of viruses, & currently it's anyone's guess as to how well Vista will cope with the waves of attacks. Added to that you'll have some inevitable bugs, which a Vista SP1 or SP2 may finally fix some 12 to 18 months after launch. Also, you'll have the considerable expense of Vista, particularly when compared to Leopard, & the launch of Leopard sometime in spring 2007 with all the favourable comparisons for Apple that will bring.

So IMO, if M$ gets their product right on a number of levels (& there are so many variables here), then yes, Vista probably will have a major effect on the number of switchers eventually. But I think Apple could continue to increase marketshare at a good rate for some 12 months at least, if not beyond. - (Also, wouldn't be a bad idea to get dedicated graphics inside some of the consumer-priced Macs most likely to appeal to switchers).

I think it is very telling for Microsoft that they weren't represented there. You had Yahoo!, Cisco Systems, Twitter
Oracle, NetFlix, Apple, Genentech, Google, The Westly Group, and Facebook.

What, do you think Microsoft has been snubbed?

The meeting was between the President and the heads of Silicon Valley tech companies.

All of the companies represented at the meeting are based in California.

Microsoft is based in Redmond, Washington.

    So Microsoft weren't invited (http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2011/02/18/why-ballmer-wasnt-at-the-obama-tech-dinner/). ;)

well i hope it's not from already mac owners buying intel macs. i hope the marketshare continues to increase
I do to, though I wonder how much this matters. Since Apple's recent acendency in pop culture, even if the marketshare numbers are slightly inflated by PPC Mac users switching to Intel Macs, I doubt this is something that new Apple consumers consider. Rather, all they hear is the press and Apple saying, "our market share has increased" and it somewhat diminishes the notion in their minds that Apple is just too small of a company with too little support for its platform to invest in a Mac.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find people who would refuse to work at the most successful software company in the world, except the most zealot-minded Apple fanboys, such as we have here.

I'm pretty far from a zealot-minded Apple fanboy (just ask anyone here, I'm usually classified the "troll" in Apple related stories because I lack the magic vision it seems), but I would still refuse to work at Microsoft. They have tried their damndest to make themselves the only industry player, squashing evolutions/revolutions in the industry year after year by making their stuff not interoperable and not documented to allow interoperability with other vendors.

They have literally held the industry back all through the 90s and early 00s, something we're just now breaking free of. Just for that, I would never lend them my expertise no matter the offer. It is an ethical and moral choice, not one based on some crazy love for one brand of products.

That being said, that doesn't mean that the people who work there are incompetent and I'm sure this guy knows how to run a data center.

Your IP address is 127.0.0.1 correct?
Isn't that the IP of Quadra840? I already crippled him by shutting down his power once in a while. He was getting to close. And about those Stinkers, My normal production output is at 300, but with all these Stinkers I'm lucky if my average is 200 a day. We should all complain by Stanford, maybe we can do something about it and get a bit more gromacs.
